In this episode, Grace Mosuro is joined by Lucy Auchincloss, Partnerships Director at Lifetime Training.
Lucy shares her story and the journey of becoming Lucy.
Lucy was born male in former Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. Growing up, while she enjoyed "male" activities such as rugby, playing with toy guns etc, she always knew that she should have been a girl, often wishing witches would take her away to cast a spell to make her a girl and make everyone forget she'd ever been a boy.
Puberty exacerbated this and she headed off to London where she partied hard to blank out the pain (and because it was fun); concurrently leading a successful career in financial services and, later, motor racing.
Lucy moved - still as a man - to Australia in 2008 where the 3rd person she met was her now wife of 13 years, Suzie. While in Australia, Lucy was able to transition to her true self, having gender realignment surgery on her 35th birthday with the unwavering support of her wife, family and friends.
She moved back to the UK 9 years ago, shortly after the birth of her son (conceived with her wife's eggs but also her own frozen sperm!).
She now works in the apprenticeship space leading teams who deliver life-changing vocational training.
